Growing up in Minnetonka, I started dance at the age of 4 years old. In the words of my mother, she could, "barely keep me in my car seat on the way to class every week, I was so excited." That was the beginning of a childhood full of beautiful, empowering, and fun dance memories. It wasn't until I was in college, dancing on the University of MN-Duluth dance team and teaching dance at a nearby studio, did I realize that dance is not just a passion, but my vocation. As my professional dance career flourished, a full-time career as a dance teacher was born, and has been humming along since 2007.

Throughout my 17 year career, I have taught hundreds of competitive and recreational dancers at dance studios, public schools and preschools in the Minneapolis and Los Angeles metros. My career in dance education is full of years in the studio with students, continuing education workshops and conventions, and I am a voracious consumer of dance education books and media. I have cultivated a well rounded understanding of how to safely train dancers, and inspire a love of dance in my students that benefits them in their lives and other activities. Simply put - I love what I do!

Liz Leverty
Teacher

Miss Liz is excited to be joining Dance by Lauren Mae this season! This fall marks the start of her ninth teaching season. Throughout her career, she has enjoyed working with dancers ages 2–18. Although hip hop and contemporary are her favorite styles to perform and teach, she has experience teaching a variety of dance styles, including ballet, tap, jazz, and lyrical. Liz strives to create a classroom where dancers feel supported, challenged, and excited to learn.

Liz's passion for dance began as a member of her high school dance team before she continued her training at the University of Wisconsin–River Falls. There, she spent three years as an active member of the UW–River Falls Dance Theatre, a modern contemporary dance company. During her time with Dance Theatre, she served as secretary for two years, performed in three annual spring concerts, and began choreographing original works for the company. She has continued to return as a guest choreographer, most recently creating a piece for last season's UW–River Falls Dance Theatre Spring Show.

Outside of the studio, Liz enjoys expressing her creativity as a professional cake decorator, specializing in custom wedding cakes. Whether she's choreographing a dance or designing a wedding cake, she loves using her creativity to bring ideas to life.

Miss Liz is excited to meet all of her dancers and families this season. She looks forward to sharing her love of dance and creating a fun, welcoming environment where every dancer can grow in confidence and enjoy the joy of movement.
